Adoption process
From your first interest to a good start together: we support you and your dog step by step, including the early weeks at home.
How adoption works
Every dog comes into our foster care first. With love, attention and calm, the dog has time to settle into a new environment. Meanwhile, we get to know their personality, habits and needs.
In our experience, a dog may behave differently in a home environment than in a shelter. That is why we choose to foster every dog ourselves first. This lets us give you a fuller picture of the dog and explore what kind of home would suit them. Settling in after the move still takes time and support.
Interest and questionnaire
Interested in one of our dogs? Get in touch. We email you a questionnaire about your household, daily life and experience with dogs, so we can get to know you and your wishes.
A conversation together
We then discuss by phone what you can offer a dog and what this particular dog needs. We also discuss the key terms of the adoption agreement. You can ask us about the dog and the adoption process.
A home visit
If we both wish to proceed, we arrange a home visit. We look at the future living environment and discuss how to give the dog a comfortable, safe place in it.
Meeting the dog in foster care
You then meet the dog in foster care. You see how the dog behaves there. The foster family tells you more about their personality, habits and needs. Together, we consider whether the match feels right for both dog and adopter.
Preparing to come home
You receive practical information about the safety harness, your first weeks together and canine body language. When you collect your dog, you receive the safety harness and a welcome pack.
Settling in and staying in touch
A 14-day trial period starts on the day your dog comes home with you. We stay in touch about how you are both doing. At the end, we discuss together how to proceed with the adoption.
You are not on your own
A new home takes time to get used to. During the trial period, we check in at these points:
- Within 24 hours
- How did arrival and the first day go?
- After 1 week
- How are you getting on together? What is going well and what questions do you have?
- After 14 days
- We discuss how things are going and conclude the trial period together.
You can still contact us with questions afterwards. If your dog cannot stay with you, get in touch. Our starting point is that the dog can return to our foster care. We discuss what is needed together and carefully coordinate their return.
Adoption contribution and arrangements
The adoption contribution is €420 for dogs aged 9 months and over. For puppies under 9 months, it is €450 because of additional care, worming and flea-treatment costs. You receive the adoption agreement in advance, so you know what to expect before signing.
